Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the SVP of Global Supply Chain and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM), the Exec Director Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management will lead a team of supplychain professionals who source and manage our outsourced CMO network. The role is accountable for the strategic business relationships with external suppliers of Development and Commercial services and/or materials, including API, SDD, OSD, BDS, sterile DP, secondary packaging services, medical devices, primary packaging, excipients, and manufacturing consumables. Collaboration with RA, Tech Dev, Mfg. Ops, QA, Product & Portfolio Strategy, and Global Supply Chain is essential to continuous improvement and ongoing supplier collaboration throughout the product lifecycle.

Development and Commercial Programs

  • Own the strategic business relationship with suppliers of manufacturing services and direct materials, including contract negotiation, ongoing business relationship management (MSAs, SOWs, supply agreements, pricing, etc.).
  • Lead strategic business discussions, longrange supply and capacity planning, and business development to ensure financial discipline, winwin outcomes, and savings opportunities.
  • Participate in CD & OP and S & OP.
  • Manage supplier performance (monthly/annually) with key KPIs such as OTD, Batch Release FirstTime %, Deviation on Time Closure %, Batch Rejection Rate, and Deviations per Batch.
  • Escalate recurring or chronic performance issues to Mfg. Ops team members.
  • Lead quarterly/annual business review meetings (BRMs) with strategic/hightier suppliers.
  • Assess and mitigate supplier risks through regular supplier risk management processes.
  • Develop BCP plans with suppliers and conduct desktop exercises to ensure robustness.
  • Prepare and track RFPs/RFQs for new business with external suppliers in consultation with Mfg. Ops, Tech. Dev, QA, etc.
  • Identify and manage strategic suppliers of manufacturing services in alignment with network supply chain strategies.
  • Develop and execute supplier strategies for direct material suppliers, aligning with approved CMT strategies.
  • Set quality and technical execution expectations with vendors.
  • Segment the supplier base and develop a strategy for strategic and tiered suppliers.
  • Articulate a digital roadmap, integrate with key suppliers, and execute the plan.
  • Articulate sustainability and resilience strategy with key suppliers.

Development / Clinical Programs

  • Provide intelligence, options, and solutions for external service and/or material suppliers needed throughout Development and up to Commercialization.
  • Lead site assessment teams (SATs) and/category management teams (CMTs) for assessment and selection of new suppliers to meet Development program needs.
  • Ensure supplier selections during Development align with Commercial manufacturing and network strategies when necessary.
  • Set quality and technical execution expectations with vendors.
  • Prepare and review agreements covering confidentiality, supply terms & conditions, and quality.

Commercial Programs

  • Support PDM Product teams through the selection, onboarding, and/or offboarding of external services and material suppliers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Provide intelligence, options, or solutions for relevant Commercial CMO and material supplier capabilities.
  • Lead SATs and/or CMTs for assessment and selection of service or material suppliers to meet commercial program needs.

Qualifications

  • Primary degree in Business, Science or Engineering discipline. Masters degree and/or professional qualifications in supply chain management desired.
  • 15+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience with at least 5 years of management and leadership roles with contract manufacturers in a supply chain capacity.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and executing strategic plans and objectives for organizations and departments.
  • Solid understanding of current industry trends.
  • Leadership qualities: collaboration, building and developing highperforming teams, accountability, crossfunctional engagement and influence, program management, strategic vision, executive presence, coaching, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to navigate a highly matrixed environment.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is: $281,010.00 $363,660.00. Compensation may also include a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stockbased longterm incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include companysponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
